If you're looking for a job or career idea in interior design, then it's smart to look at interior design job listings.  And that is the focus of this article -- in it, I will guide you through some of the typical interior design jobs, and interior design job listings that you are likely to come across.

In 2006, 72,000 jobs were held by interior designers.  And one out of four Interior designers was self-employed.  This means that they did business on their own, and did not have to look through any interior design job listings.  Consider this an option if you are a self motivated individual, and wish to work under your own schedule.  In this case, good business and people skills are required.

There is an expected increase to be seen in interior design job listings.  The current projection of demand for employing interior designers is expected to grow almost 20% in the next 10 years.  This is above the average growth for all occupation fields. 

One of the reasons why growth in this industry is being seen is because of the various different home-improvement television programs that have gained popularity in recent years.  This has created a higher demand for interior design by the homeowner.

There are expected to be many different interior design job listings as they relate to the hospitality industry.  Specifically, look for job listings for hotels, resorts and restaurants.  It wouldn't be a bad idea to start establishing expertise in these areas far in advance, to be positioned in the right spot for when the demand peaks out.

Also, look for an increase in demand for interior design jobs in the healthcare industry.  With the baby boomer population growing in age, there are going to be an increased number of interior design job listings made available to accommodate the design within healthcare institutions and settings.

Additionally, expect to see different job listings for specialty areas, as they relate to retail design.  For instance, consider specializing in just kitchen and/or bath design.  Since most people are taking home remodeling into their own hands, they may only be looking for someone to help them design just there kitchen or bath.  Also, many more people are creating their own home theaters and home office facilities, so these are areas to consider as well.
