Interior Design School

There are many different online interior design degree programs that are offered to the aspiring interior designer these days.  In this article, I will cover some of the basics that are related to interior design degree programs.

There are different programs as they relate to different levels of education.  For example, there are associate programs, bachelor arts programs, and even specific certification programs, depending upon what you want to get out of interior design.

Typically, your entry-level classes and interior design degree programs will focus on the basics of interior design, such as lighting, scaling and sizing, balance and harmony, texture, patterns, color psychology, color schematics and spatial relationships.

If you are going for a career as an interior decorator, then you can consider an interior decorator program.  Here you will learn the basics and mechanics of interior decorating, and also learn how to help your client figure out their needs, and evaluate their budget, run and operate your own business, as well as understand and use elements and principles of color design.

Certificate programs are aimed for the beginning and interior design student, and mostly focus on helping a person with designing their own home, and gaining enough expertise to give advice to friends and family members.

An Associates of Arts Degree in interior design is geared more to the student who wishes to make a career out of interior design.  Here, you will be awarded in A.A. degree when you complete this interior design degree program.  The main emphasis is on technical advanced design concepts, and focuses both on residential and commercial aspects.

A bachelor of arts degree program in interior design is a higher degree program.  Here you will get into architectural drafting concepts, study more in depth the history of interior design and architecture, schematic design and design development related to spatial enveloping, and study commercial design installations.

Also, you'll learn about design theory, where you will explore three-dimensional design principles and model building.

There are other interior design degree programs that focus more on specialization, for the students who wish to study and learn certain aspects of interior design, instead of a general education.

In conclusion, there are variety of different Interior design degree programs that are available to you, no matter what level you're currently at, or your career aspirations.  Take each of these into consideration, and research them further to get a better idea of the different kinds of programs that are available to you.
